This young lady plays softball at Elko H.S., competing in highly regarded play in Nevada. As only a freshman last season, Elizabeth was a full-time varsity starter and was utilized behind the plate at Catcher and in the Middle Infield at SS/2B. On the club circuit, she runs the Washington Angels U16/18 squad and more than holds her own against older competition. Elizabeth "Lizzy" Romero is the only freshman to make our varsity team. She is one of our two starting catchers. Defensively, she receives and frames pitches very well. She has an above average arm and is judicious about when to throw down to pick off runners on base. Her blocking of errant pitches is getting progressively better. Offensively, she has all of the tools--power, contact, speed on the bases. She hits leadoff for us and is a great spark at the top of the order. She has the power (and has) to go deep as well. On the bases, she is aggressive and smart. In addition to her physical skills, Lizzy is very coachable, very focused, and has a high softball IQ, especially for a freshman. With her hard work, discipline, grit, and determination, Lizzy has unlimited potential. Plus, she is just a great kid!
