Coach Quotes
"I've had Haylee in the gym since she was in the fifth or sixth grade. She used to tag along with her older sister, who is one of the leading scorers in program history, so that she could work out. Inevitably, Haylee would always end up on the floor getting some work herself. She's a great kid from a very supportive family who works hard to succeed at the things she does. She's a great teammate who leads by example and always seems to find the right balance between having fun and keeping her focus and priorities where they need to be. She's made a lot of progress both in the classroom and on the court during high school. As talented as she is, I'll always remember her for the attitude and personality she brought to the gym.

Haylee also has a genuine love for the basketball and is growing as a student of the game. She watches a lot of NBA, mens and womens NCAA basketball and WNBA. During covid, she's really developed a stronger understanding and IQ for the game and is making connections between what we work on in the gym and how it fits into her game on the court. I really think that will pay huge dividends for her senior year.

It's really too bad that Nevada was one of only two states to not have a basketball season during covid. Haylee probably had two of the best underclassmen years we've ever had in our program and was in a position to really have a strong junior year. We went to a couple of travel tournaments with some other local girls from larger schools and Haylee was the leading scorer for both teams. She shot the ball at an extremely high clip from outside and showed a lot of maturity in the way she played the game. Without covid, it's highly likely that Haylee would have broken the school scoring record. She's a special player.

I think one of Haylee's underrated qualities, or at least one that's harder to see from the outside, is her toughness and perseverance. As a sophomore, she had one of the most efficient scoring years we've ever had from a guard despite not shooting the ball well from three the first month of the season. One of the things that gets overlooked in high school basketball is that we're playing sometimes as many as a third of our games in a nine or 10 day stretch during our preseason tournaments and that doesn't leave much time to fix things. Haylee had worked really hard on her outside shot during the offseason and had been shooting the ball great when she got in a big-time funk during our first two tournaments. She didn't panic or force the issue, she just adjusted her game to try to take great shots when they were available but to really look for opportunities to attack off the dribble. Despite the tough start, she score 1.5 points more per game on the same number of shots and kept her field goal percentage above 40 percent for the entire year. A lot of kids would have panicked. Haylee stayed the course as an underclassmen, went to work and put together a great season. She ended up hitting almost 40 percent from deep in conference."
