“Ella Rainwater is a sophomore starting pitcher / designated player / corner infielder on our varsity team at Elko High School of which I am head coach. Last year she made the varsity team as a freshman. This year she was our #1 starting pitcher and thus drew the #1 pitchers from the teams we played. Her ERA in league games was just under 6.0 and her WHIP was about 1.75. She went from pitching just 20 innings as the #2 as a freshman to almost 90 innings pitched this season. What is most impressive of Ella this year is her focus and demeanor on the mound. She has worked hard to maintain her composure when things are not going her way. She had some excellent outings this year, of which the highlight was an 8 IP, 4 ER win over rival Lowry High School for our first win versus the Buckaroos in over 10 years. It was a gutsy and courageous effort by Ella in a very big spot. Ella was also one of our top offensive players. She would DP when not pitching. She averaged 0.333 in our league games with one home run and 18 RBIs in 20 games. Here on base percentage was almost 0.500. With hard work and increased discipline at the plate next year, Ella’s offensive numbers are guaranteed to go up. Ella Rainwater is a very coachable and an excellent teammate. I foresee taking a big step next year in leading our young varsity team more than just into the regional playoffs like we were this year. She is a great kid and a great player with a very high ceiling for growth in her next two years of high school softball.”
