Athletic Accomplishments

This 2021 grad plays football at Derby H.S., competing in highly regarded 6A play in the Wichita Metropolitan Area in Kansas. As a junior last season en-route to their 6A State Championship, Amare was used primarily at Safety/Cornerback, but also saw snaps on the Punt Return and Kickoff units on Special Teams. As a sophomore at Veterans Memorial H.S. in San Antonio, he was used at QB, where his speed and high football IQ could be fully utilized. As a freshman on the JV unit playing QB, DB, RB, WR, OLB and even as their Deep Snapper, Amare saw time in all 3 phases of the game and was a massive reason for his teams success. Adding yet another State Championship to his resume this season as a senior, to say Amare helped fuel that state title would be a tremendous understatement!

Athletic Statistics

Standing 5'8"-170lbs as a senior, Amare combines his ability to be used at multiple positions on both offense and defense with his leadership qualities to have a bright future ahead of himself at DHS and beyond. Heading into the Playoffs as a junior, Amare finished the regular season with 20 solo tackles, 15 assists, 1 sack, and 12 PBU's. As a sophomore at QB at VMHS, he averaged 2 rushing TD's and 2 passing TD's per game. He is going to make whichever college coach he winds up playing for down the line VERY happy.

As tall as Amare has already stood on the football fields so far in his high school career to-date, he also understands the importance of his performance in the classroom. Currently carrying an excellent 4.19 GPA, Amare is taking ALL Pre-AP & AP courses, ranks 25th out of 489 students in his graduating class, scored 1180 on his PSAT, 25 on his ACT, has volunteered at the San Antonio Food Bank and is a member of NJHS. He was also chosen for the All-Star cast for the JISD Drama Competition, was named to the "A" Honor Roll and earned the "Fighting Heart" Award in Athletics as an 8th grader before entering high school. Most recently, he was awarded the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence.
